Vayalur Murugan temple is located 9km from west of Tiruchi.Vayalur is also known as Kumara vayalur, Adi vayalur, Vanni vayalur and Agnishwaram.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga.There are also shrines for Lord shiva(moolavar Adi Nathar) , Natarajar ,Sri Poiya Ganapati ,Sri Subramanian along with his consorts Valli and Deivanai seated on a peacock.
Athi nathar here is said to be a Swayumbu lingam and known as Agniswarar.
Adjacent to Agniswarar is the shrine for his consort Sri AdiNayaki located and is known as Munnilai Nayaki.
One of the special features about Lord Nataraja idol here is it has both its legs placed on the ground (Sadna Dada pose). The festival idols here are of great beauty.
It is at the place where lord Muruga blessed the saint poet Arunagiri Nathar and also initiated him to compose Thirupugazh.
The temple is surrounded by green lushes known as vayal (green fields) on all the four sides and this place is known as Vayalur.This temple is around 1200 years old and it was built during the cholas period.
The temple has a pond opposite to it known as Sakhti Theertaham, also known as Kumara Theertham, Agni Theertham.
Sthala Viruksham here is Vanni tree.
Daily six worships are offered to the lord.
